The substrate is a turbostratic carbon with a low degree of graphitization. The sol is deposited by the deep-coating method. Then the whole is dried over 70°C for at least 24 hours. The temperature induces the condensation reactions. In this step, the gelation occurs: a solid network is formed by polymerisation of the sol, oxolation and alcoxolation reactions and evaporation of the solvent. Oxolation and alcoxolation reactions are given by Eq. 6 and Eq. 7. They lead to dehydration and dealcoholisation respectively.
